  • What is COMPASS project?
  • A collaborative research project for pharmacy practice in five countries

COMPASSプロジェクト TOP

A pharmacy’s practice is affected by many things, among them are the pharmacist’s experience and training, the patients involved and the protocol they must follow, as set out by the government under its jurisdiction.

Previously Japanese community pharmacies role was mainly dispensing. Now, however Point-Of-Care Testing at community pharmacies has been initiated due to an alteration of laws and regulations last year, and starting next year pharmacies will have a further expanded role. Our research group (Table 1) is studying the similarities and differences between the pharmacy practice and community pharmacists’ attitude to their job in Japan, Canada, Australia, USA and the UK (Figure 1). With the exception of Japan, these countries have been expanding pharmacist’ role in the society for long time.

To study the pharmacy practice and pharmacists’ attitude forward their job in these countries, our research group has already finished a semi-structured interview with twenty three pharmacist (Figure 2) and now we are doing a questionnaire survey. This is the pilot study and we are planning to expand this survey to more countries within a few years.
